Project boats
Project boats are a particular area of expertise with Laver Marine Boat Inspections. With over 40 years’ experience building and restoring boats Max Laver understands both the attraction of a project and the risks involved.

For some owners, the priority is simply to get on the water as speedily as possible. For others, restoring a boat is a rewarding use of time and effort, providing significant satisfaction when completed properly.
However, the success of any project depends on starting with the right foundation. Discovering serious structural, design, or material issues early in a rebuild can quickly turn an enjoyable project into an expensive and frustrating exercise. In many cases, the combined financial and personal cost exceeds that of purchasing a better-condition vessel at the outset.

This assessment is informed not only by professional experience, but by personal involvement in projects of this nature.

A realistic evaluation of structure, scope, and end result is essential. Enthusiasm should be balanced with objective analysis. A project should have a clearly achievable outcome. Many boats marketed as “projects” are, in reality, liabilities that are best avoided.

Max's role is to provide an honest assessment and help determine whether a vessel is worth pursuing or whether it is more prudent to walk away. In simple terms: buy it or move on.
